Children need to be sick
And this paradoxical thing once became a discovery for me. That a child needs to survive about 50 snot episodes to form a mature immune system. Fifty! Necessary! That is,…

Aibolites are people too

He will give you tips on the rules of care and feeding, will help with illnesses, organize preventive examinations of the child by specialist doctors and vaccinations.

Without his imprisonment, you (or rather, your child) will not be accepted into kindergarten, summer camp, pool, or school. During the illness of the child, only the local pediatrician will issue the mother a document of justification for provision at the place of her work. And it will be very prudent if you always follow the golden rule: “You must be friends with the local pediatrician!”

Doctors are people too

Elementary decency requires parents to do everything so that the doctor does not cause trouble because of you. And for this you need quite a bit: at the appointed time to visit the clinic for examinations, vaccinations and taking tests. And that’s all! The doctor no longer needs anything from you. In all other cases, you need it.

You should know that visiting a clinic and going home is only a small part of the doctor’s work, fading in comparison with the time he spends at his desk, filling out all kinds of reporting forms. The salary of a doctor does not depend on the number of patients. At least two people at the reception, at least 52. At least three home calls, at least 23. Despite the fact that the vast majority of childhood diseases can be cured at home, the doctor can not afford this. He does not have the opportunity to visit you daily, organize an appropriate examination, etc. The doctor cannot recommend a treatment method or education system that is different from the officially recommended.

Most doctors are people like us all. They do not want to consciously take risks, to consciously look for trouble for themselves and to consciously take responsibility in situations where responsibility should be assigned to another.

Plus common sense

If the child lives in warmth, clean, well-groomed, the best food, etc., but is sick, there are no complaints to the doctor. But the doctor will say: stop wrapping up, and in a week the child will catch a cold – so everyone knows who is to blame. And often the doctor does not argue with his parents: do what you want, it’s better I’ll treat you later …

But parents should also understand that sometimes the district pediatrician is forced to give “outdated” advice, for example, on caring for a child, because they are prescribed in the ministerial instructions. And if the doctor tells you that from a month old a child needs to give juices, and from five months old – vegetable soup, and you are afraid of diarrhea and allergies, then you can well take responsibility, since you are parents. But I categorically do not recommend resorting to independent medical treatment of my children.

Let me remind you of another golden rule:

“The decisions of the pediatrician and the common sense of the parents should be at the core of decisions.”

So that you can better establish your relationship with your local pediatrician, I can advise:

At the first visit to the clinic, find out and rewrite the hours of his admission. Obviously, if the reception in the clinic in the morning, then the doctor will be able to come to your house only in the afternoon. And you need to know this – at least in order to decide, in which case, wait for a doctor or immediately call an ambulance.

If you called a doctor at home:

if possible, restore order in the house;
make slippers;
hang a clean towel in the bathroom and make sure that you don’t have to look for soap;
just in case, let it be at hand with a spoon, which will be needed to examine the oral cavity. The spoon should be of medium size and without any frills;
if you have specific questions to the doctor, write them down on paper in advance, since, with a high degree of probability, you will forget everything that you wanted to ask at the crucial moment.
