Bronchitis is an inflammatory disease of the lungs without
the formation of infiltrative changes in their parenchyma. Bronchitis can be both a manifestation of ARVI and its complication due to the addition of secondary bacterial microflora in the background or after suffering ARVI. The incidence of acute bronchitis in Russia averages 75–250 per 1000 children per year, that is, 2 orders of magnitude higher than pneumonia. Most often in children, bronchitis occurs in the age category of 1-3 years.
Viruses are thought to be the root cause of approximately 90% of cases of acute bronchitis. Despite this, in a prospective study aimed at studying the etiology and outcomes of lower respiratory tract infections in adults, viruses were isolated in only about a quarter of patients with this disease. Epileptic status (ES) is characterized by prolonged or repeated seizures / episodes without a return to the normal state for this patient. ES is often found in pediatric practice, it affects 18–23 out of 100 thousand children per year, mortality reaches 2–7%. Treatment measures include the introduction of anticonvulsants, the identification and elimination of factors that trigger ES, as well as the prevention of possible complications.
Definition and classification of ES
Historically, ES has been defined as “a condition characterized by an epileptic seizure / seizure long enough or recurring at short enough intervals to cause an unchanged and stable epileptic state”.
This definition was supplemented by the International League for the Control of Epilepsy, which decided that an attack / seizure should last at least 30 minutes, or during this period of time there should be several seizures without restoration of functions between them for more than 30 minutes. At present, the problem of frequently ill children (FWA) remains relevant. With the onset of the autumn-winter period and the start of schooling, schoolchildren experience overloads, fatigue increases, the number of contacts in groups increases, and children begin to suffer from acute respiratory infections (ARI) more often.
Patients with repeated episodes of ARI more than 8 times a year are referred to the group of FWB. In the structure of morbidity, viral infections account for 65–90% (influenza viruses, parainfluenza viruses, adenoviruses, respiratory syncytial virus). Viral monoinfection is detected in 52%, the association of 2 viruses or more – in 36% of cases.
The highest incidence of respiratory infections was observed in children’s organized groups in children of preschool and primary school age, the peak incidence occurs in the first years of visiting kindergartens. Continue reading

Influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) are, according to experts, the most widespread diseases and occupy a leading place in the structure of infectious pathology. According to WHO, during epidemic outbreaks of influenza, up to 15% of the population (3-5 million people) get sick, 250-500 thousand of them die. Approximately 20–40 million people per year fall ill with influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections in the Russian Federation, of which 40–60% are children.
The national report on the health of the population of Russia noted that the number of absolutely healthy children decreased to 10%, children with repeated SARS make up 70–75%, with chronic diseases – 15–20%. Today, in the practice of a pediatric ENT specialist, the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract in children remain an urgent problem. In 25-50% of children there are various inflammatory diseases of the nose, nasopharynx and paranasal sinuses. According to statistics, the proportion of diseases of the paranasal sinuses is 12-14.5%, the ear – 28% and the nasopharynx – about 54%. Despite the progress of methods for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, an increase of 1.5–2.0% is observed annually in such patients.
